  • MOMSTELL president contributes to writing the Families of Youth with Substance Use Disorders: A National Dialogue Report 
  • MOMSTELL Founder Sharon Smith given the Joint Meeting on Adolescent Treatment Effectiveness (JMATE) Youth, Family, and Community Evidence- Based Practice: Parent/Caregiver Category 2010 Award.
  • MOMSTELL published their "Access to Substance Abuse Treatment- Results of a Family Survey" which has been distributed nationally
  • MOMSTELL collaborated with the National Addiction Transfer Technology Center and the Faces and Voice of Recovery on the national "In My Own Words" contest
  • Participated in Designing a Recovery Oriented Care Model for Adolescents and Transitional Age Youth with Substance Use- Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders
  • Sharon L. Smith co-wrote the first Family Involvement Issue Brief for Improving Access to and Quality of Treatment for Adolescents with Substance Use/Co-occurring Mental Health Treatment
  • MOMSTELL hosted the National Family Dialogue Webinars

  • MOMSTELL founder Sharon Smith Co-chaired the planning committee for the March 27-28,  2009 historic first substance abuse family conference entitled " Families of Youth with  Substance Use Addiction: A National Dialogue, in Rockville MD. Parent/Family members representing 34 State/Tribes attended this historic event sponsored by The Center For Substance Abuse and SAMHSA
  • Reclaiming Futures Webinar  "Family Involvement: A Collaborative Partnership going Forward"
  • Developed “Families of Addiction” a parent/family organization to address substance  abuse/co-occurring disorder issues throughout Pennsylvania

  • Created  the first Independent Parent Advisory Council for Substance Abuse to address   family and community access to alcohol and drug abuse and addiction treatment services

  • Participated in successful national campaign demanding Hershey Foods stop production of  ice breaker pacs. The mints were packaged in small heat sealed square packets filled with white powder. The packets resembled illegal drug packets


  • Liaison Network for Drug Watch International since October 2004

  • Participated in "Addiction is not Fashionable" campaign against Christian Dior's "Addict"product line and met with Paris executives in Manhattan, New York.

  • HR-585, to establish a parent panel to study accessible treatment services and make recommendations to facilitate access to treatment and intervention services in the community. (Passed unanimously June 13, 2006).
  • Working on the state budget every year to restore cuts and increase treatment funding
  • HB-28  a heroin drug trafficking bill (Passed into law June of 2000) Testifying in both the Pennsylvania House and Senate
